Astral battles strategy
|
I remember Luap posting that he wanted to use his fire spell no matter how close he was to the enemy in the astral battles, now i have that desire as well cause of my earth spells.
so heres my idea: Next to the drop down for helping people out maybe the could be one to choose our style of fighting in the astral battles like defensive, or offensive or melee or magical offensive or defensive for things like regen scrolls. I know that our characters use the same tactics that enemies do in our battles but here's some food for thought.

That is an excellent point. I too would like to be able to use my magic abilities at any range

If you want to use your scroll at all ranges, just don't equip any other weapons you fools.

Vostok, if they did that then they would be defenseless when they ran out of MP. Using a 25th level spell, that happens in 4 rounds.
This is a good idea, and I considered it myself. However, it would take a ridiculous amount of programming to complete. It just can't be done right now. I'll keep it around for when I have more free time though.

Well that's the choice they have to make

That's besides the point Vostok some people would rather fight a battle running away like a little girl while shooting arrows and i think we should be able to give them that choice.

True ... I wouldn't mind being able to take advantage of the longer range of my spells ... blasting away while all you short-rangers slog your way into range. Would also increase your chances of stepping on one of my traps.

Re: Astral battles strategy

As Lilpozz mentioned, I had this same problem a while back. As a mage I wanted to cast spells, but my character insisted on charging forward with his swords in every astral battlefield. My first solution was the one Vostok suggested, equipping only scrolls. And at first that worked out, but after a while I started running out of mp during battles. And then I'd just stand there motionless while my foes pummeled me to death. It seemed like there was no good solution at all. But then I figured it out. I was actually planning on posting the solution in my magic guide there, but I'll write it here first because I probably won't write that chapter for a while. But anyways, on to the answer. The Astral Battlefield either prefers short range to long range, or single handed weapon to 2 handed weapon. I suppose I can equip a 2 handed sword and a scroll and see what happens to find out, but its not really important for the solution. Anyways, the solution is to equip your mage with a bow and some golden arrows. I don't know about real low level spells, but the game prefers mid-level scrolls to golden arrows. That means that if you've got a bow and arrows equipped you'll stay in your spot and use magic. And once you run out of mp you'll switch over to shooting golden arrows which might not be the best weapon in your repetoire, but are better than nothing. It solves the problems with equipping swords and scrolls (the game goes for the swords over the scrolls despite the betterness of the scrolls) and solves the problems with equipping just scrolls (insufficient mp). Hope this helps
There's nothing 25 skill points of fire magic and a fire pillar spell can't fix.
